Club Profile

  • Based at the Tellenfeld Sport Facility in the country town of Amriswil in the northeast of Switzerland close to Lake Constance, the small club LG Oberthurgau (membership 120) has distinguished itself for more than a decade as one of the country’s athletics success stories, in terms of both supporting young talent and of national-level performance, especially in the U20 category.
  • Since the club’s establishment in 1999, LG Oberthurgau has developed more than a dozen athletes who have gone on to represent Switzerland internationally, including the 2014 European champion in the 400m hurdles Kariem Hussein.
  • In recent years LG Oberthurgau has consistently been in the top ranks of Swiss clubs. The women’s team has competed in the National League A (8 best clubs) since 2019 and the men’s team was promoted to League B in 2024.
  • But it is in the U20 age group where LG Oberthurgau has really excelled. Its women’s team won the national U20 club championship five times from 2008 to 2012 and more recently, with the men’s and women’s championships now combined, the club came out as the best in 2024 and 2025 – the latter qualifying the team to represent Switzerland in this year’s European DNA U20 Clubs in Leiria.
