Spain to stage second national indoor DNA event
14 January 2022
Dynamic New Athletics (DNA) is set to return to the spotlight when the Royal Spanish Athletics Federation (RFEA) hosts the second edition of the Spanish national inter-clubs meeting at the Velodrome Lluís Puig in Valencia on Saturday 15 January.
Featuring two seven-event competitions for mixed-gender club teams of 10 athletes, the event will start with a promotion match for younger athletes from a mixture of age groups (U20/U18/U16) which will be followed by the open match for senior athletes.
Both matches will be live-streamed for free on social media starting at 16:00 CET.
Heading the fields of six teams in the two matches will be last year’s winners, Alcampo Scorpio 71 in the promotion match and Playas de Castellón in the open match.
Reflecting the growing interest in the DNA concept by athletes at all levels, the event comes three weeks before an indoor showcase DNA event for senior national teams on 5 February in Glasgow, Scotland, hosted by European Athletics, Glasgow Life and EventScotland.
In 2020 the RFEA was awarded a €300,000 grant by the European Union to develop DNA for use in clubs and schools. The two-year project, which is called Jungle Athletics, includes the creation of a smartphone app, a national competition programme and an international conference scheduled for September.
