Meet the Teams: LG Oberthurgau

Based at the Tellenfeld Sport Facility in the country town of Amriswil in the northeast of Switzerland close to Lake Constance, the small club LG Oberthurgau (membership 120) has distinguished itself for more than a decade as one of the country’s athletics success stories, in terms of both supporting young talent and of national-level performance, especially in the U20 category.

Blackheath & Bromley Harriers Athletic Club, to give its full name, is one of the oldest and most successful athletics clubs in the United Kingdom. Based at the Norman Park Community Sports Centre in southeast London, it is run mainly by dedicated volunteers whose vision is to be widely regarded as a highly successful, professionally managed, exemplar athletics club that enhances the lives of its members and the local community.
Its history stretches all the way back to 1869 and the club has gone through a number of changes over the years. Originally a men’s only organisation, it first welcomed women in 1992 and took its current name upon a merger in 2003…

Based at the Stade Saint-Symphorien in Longeville-lès-Metz just outside the northeastern French city of Metz, Athlétisme Metz Metropole was established in 2004 in a fusion of the athletics divisions from two existing local multi-sport clubs, both of which date back to 1960.
Strongly supported by the Ville de Metz (City of Metz) and the administrative Department de la Moselle, the club’s mission is to encourage the practice of all forms of athletics, at all levels and for all ages. It has a membership of over 900, including 425 in its athletics school for children, and specialises in organising competitions, including the Metz Moslle Athlelor, ranked the world’s fifth best indoor meeting of 2025 by World Athletics…

Meet the Teams: Atletismo Alcorcón

Founded in 1993 and based in the city of Alcorcón, approximately 14 kilometres west of the capital Madrid, Atletismo Alcorcón is traditionally one of Spain’s top eight clubs in the U20 category and its membership currently includes 220 athletes plus 330 students in its associated athletics school.
Over the years, Atletismo Alcorcón has been home to a number of athletes who have represented Spain internationally including sprinter-long jumper Laura Martínez, who earned a bronze medal in the long jump at the 2022 European Athletics U18 Championships and though still only 18 years old has already taken part in both the European and World U20 championships….

Established in 1996 by Erki Nool, one of Estonia’s greatest-ever athletes who would go on to win the decathlon gold medal at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, the SK Elite club, together with its wholly owned athletics school (Erki Noole Kergejõustikukooli), currently serves approximately 400 athletes.
With a mission to develop youngsters of high school age and below – the club has few members over 23 years old – the Tallinn-based SK Elite caters for all athletic disciplines but, in line with its founder’s special interest, devotes particular attention to supporting pole vaulters…

Currently Czechia’s largest athletics club, AK Skoda Plzen counts more than 1,400 members and, in line with its focus on the U18 and U20 age groups, approximately 1,100 of these are teenagers or younger.
Perennially successful, the club took over 220 national championship medals in the years 2022 to 2024. The team competing at the Clash of the Clubs in Leiria as Rieti26 is a rebrand of one of Italy’s top athletics clubs, Studentesca Andrea Milardi, that is intended to celebrate and promote the staging of next year’s European Athletics U18 Championship in the club’s home city of Rieti.
Athletes from the club have amassed nearly 1,100 Italian championship medals and more than 100 of them have gone on to compete in the blue jersey of the Italian national team…

Meet the Teams: Juventude Vidigalense

Started by three teenagers as a youth running club in 1986, Juventude Vidigalense was formally established in 1992 and developed quickly, its senior team reaching the first division of Portugal’s national team championships for the first time in the year 2000 and its athletes regularly taking national championship medals and setting national records in all age groups.
Currently boasting approximately 1500 members, it is one of Portugal’s largest and most active athletics clubs. Over the years it has made its home base of Leiria a major national centre for the sport….

The brilliant 2025 summer of international competition opportunities for Europe’s young athletes will draw to a close as one of the Portugal’s top athletics centres and tourist destinations, the coastal city of Leiria, stages the fourth edition of the Dynamic New Athletics (DNA) U20 Clubs, dubbed the Clash of the Clubs, on 20 and 21 September.
Following the excitement of the European Athletics U23 Championships in Bergen, NOR and the U20 Championships in Tampere, FIN, the focus will turn to club athletes, who will get their chance to shine in team competition at its best in a unique live-streamed event that has become an end-of-season tradition….
